On May 11, 2012, Same-Day Surgery awarded its first Gold Star award to David Shapiro, MD, as part of its 35th anniversary celebration. The award was given at the Celebration Luncheon at the Ambulatory Surgery Center Association (ASCA) annual meeting in Dallas. Same-Day Surgery newsletter is awarding Gold Stars to outstanding leaders and innovators in the outpatient surgery field. David Shapiro, MD, was selected for his multiple contributions to the ambulatory surgery center (ASC) field through leadership positions and activism. Shapiro serves as president of the Ambulatory Surgery Center Association (ASCA) and the Ambulatory Surgery Foundation (ASF). He also is chair of the Ambulatory Surgery Center Quality Collaboration, which develops, measures, and publicly reports national ASC quality data.

Additionally, Shapiro conducts healthcare facility surveys on behalf of AAAHC (Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care) and Medicare.

West Yorkshire-based conservatory and double glazing company Conservatory Outlet has promoted two of its existing employees following impressive growth over the past 18 months.

Ryan Bower, 28, has earned himself the responsibility of becoming Customer Service Manager, and Ben Wilson, 25, assumes the role of Marketing Manager after nearly two years with the window, door and orangery manufacturer which serves an ever growing network of installers across the UK.

The directors of Conservatory Outlet; Managing Director Matthew Glover, Sales Director Greg Kane and Operations Director Michael Giscombe have assembled a young but experienced team at their headquarters in Wakefield, many of whom are university graduates.

Although fulfilling very different roles, Ryan Bower and Ben Wilson have become integral members of the office team, as indeed every member of staff is, and both are delighted to have had their efforts rewarded.

Recruitment has also taken place in the adjoining factory where a number of seasoned fabricators have joined the production team, along with a second production manager to aid with the manufacturing of an ever-increasing number of UPVC frames.

Conservatory Outlet consistently manufactures over 1200 frames per week which are installed as double glazed windows, replacement UPVC doors, and conservatories and orangeries by the fabricators 22-strong network of dealers which stretch from Aberdeen to the Isle of Wight.

The policy to promote from within is one that all three directors are keen to continue as the company works towards achieving an Investors in People Gold Award within the next 12 months.
